2 Line Updates

Dear passenger,

As you may be aware, Network Rail is carrying out major improvement works around Watford Junction. These works are now reaching a critical stage, meaning that some of the railway in the Watford area will not be available for trains to use throughout December.

From Saturday 29 November until Monday 29 December 2014, the St. Albans Abbey line and platform 10 at Watford Junction are closed whilst track alterations and vegetation clearance takes place.

As a result, the following services will not run from Monday 1 December until Monday 5 January:

0755 Watford Junction (0759 Bushey, 0805 Harrow & Wealdstone) - London Euston

0815 Watford Junction (0819 Bushey, 0824 Harrow & Wealdstone) - London Euston

1734 London Euston (1746 Harrow & Wealdstone, 1752 Bushey) - Watford Junction

Additional stops

The following additional stops will be made on weekdays between Monday 1 December and Friday 24 December to minimise inconvenience:

AM peak

0715 Bletchley - Euston stops additionally at Bushey (0748)

0721 Milton Keynes Central - Euston stops additionally at Bushey (0809) and Harrow & Wealdstone (0814)

PM peak

1730 Euston - Milton Keynes Central stops additionally at Harrow & Wealdstone (1742)

I appreciate that the loss of these services may lead to less comfortable journeys for passengers. We have added some additional stops as detailed above. However, these trains are already very busy peak services.

We have reviewed whether it would be possible to make further additional stops, but unfortunately all other morning peak services are already at full capacity. While this essential work takes place, it is not possible for any additional trains to pass through this area, as it is already the busiest stretch of railway of its type in Europe.

I would like to apologise for any disruption that this causes to your journey.

If passengers are able to consider travelling on an alternative service, then we would advise them to do so.

Once again, my apologies for any inconvenience.

To make everyone's journey more pleasant, alcohol is now banned on London Midland trains from Liverpool after 9pm on Friday/Saturday nights.

Boarding controls will be in operation, supported by the British Transport Police: if you try to bring alcohol on board, or we think you?ve had too much to drink, you won?t be allowed to travel.

The new restrictions are being trialled following a series of drink-related incidents on board late night trains on the Liverpool route. Other measures are also being introduced, including security staff and police officers on board trains between Liverpool and Crewe.

Thank you for your co-operation.
