Due to a problem currently under investigation at Ayr disruption is expected until 23:59 30/09.
Impact:
Train services between Glasgow Central and Ayr may be cancelled.
Customer Advice:
Services between Ayr and Glasgow Central will have reduced capacity because of the restrictions that have been applied by the council, as the platforms at Ayr station can only accommodate four-carriage trains. A number of early morning services will also be subject to cancellation as we no longer have access to the Ayr Townhead servicing depot. Bus services will operate at points along the route to get people where they need to be.
Customers travelling from Paisley Gilmour Street to Glasgow Central should use services from platform 1 if possible (Gourock and Wemyss Bay services).
Customers travelling from Kilwinning towards Glasgow Central should use services from platform 1 if possible (Ardrossan & Largs services).
We will provide a further update to our customers regarding station restrictions as soon as we have more information from South Ayrshire Council.
Additional Information:
The exclusion zone imposed by South Ayrshire Council at Ayr station is still ongoing and having an impact on our services. This is because the former hotel building next to the station has been deemed unsafe. The hotel building isnt owned or operated by ScotRail. This exclusion zone means services via Ayr will be disrupted for the foreseeable future.
Will there be further changes to services?
We will keep the matter under constant review, to ensure we are providing the best possible service to our customers along the route. This includes customers at stations along the route closer to Glasgow Central, who are impacted by the reduced capacity.
How long will this disruption last?
The disruption to our services will continue for as long as the councils exclusion zone remains in place.
How can I keep up to date with whats happening?
Please check @ScotRail on Twitter, the live departure information on our website, or download our appbefore starting your journey to check which services are operating.
Please use the station Help Points if you require any assistance.
We are sorry to our customers for any inconvenience caused by this situation which is outwith our control. We are working flat out to get people where they need to be.
The following service alterations will apply until further notice:
Services between Ayr and Glasgow Central will have reduced capacity because of the restrictions that have been applied by the council, as the platforms at Ayr station can only accommodate four-carriage trains. In order to provide the best possible service to customers along the route, a number of trains throughout the day will start and terminate at Prestwick Town. A replacement bus service will run between Ayr and Prestwick Town to connect with these services.
Services between Glasgow Central and Kilmarnock will run normally Monday to Saturday, with some exceptions.
Services between Paisley Gilmour Street and Glasgow Central also run normally but by starting/terminating some trains at Prestwick Town, we are able to operate longer trains on this route again. This means that we can restore capacity to previous levels.
There will be no services between Ayr and Girvan / Stranraer. Buses will be in place to take customers between Ayr and Girvan / Stranraer.
